28:16 進了羅馬城，（有古卷在此有：百夫長把眾囚犯交給御營的統領，惟有）保羅蒙准和一個看守他的兵另住在一處。
28:17 過了三天，保羅請猶太人的首領來。他們來了，就對他們說：弟兄們，我雖沒有做甚麼事干犯本國的百姓和我們祖宗的規條，卻被鎖綁，從耶路撒冷解在羅馬人的手裡。
28:18 他們審問了我，就願意釋放我；因為在我身上，並沒有該死的罪。
28:19 無奈猶太人不服，我不得已，只好上告於凱撒，並非有甚麼事要控告我本國的百姓。
28:20 因此，我請你們來見面說話，我原為以色列人所指望的，被這鍊子捆鎖。
28:21 他們說：我們並沒有接著從猶太來論你的信，也沒有弟兄到這裡來報給我們說你有甚麼不好處。
28:22 但我們願意聽你的意見如何；因為這教門，我們曉得是到處被毀謗的。

28:16 我們到了羅馬之後，保羅得到准許，跟看守他的那個兵士住另外一個地方。
28:17 過了三天，保羅約當地猶太人的領袖相見。他們來了，保羅對他們說：「同胞們，雖然我沒有做甚麼冒犯同胞，或是違背祖宗規矩的事，我竟在耶路撒冷被囚禁，又被解交羅馬當局。
28:18 他們審問我，可是找不出我有甚麼該死的罪，有意要釋放我。
28:19 但是猶太人反對，迫不得已，我只好上訴於皇帝，並不是我對同胞有甚麼要控告的。
28:20 為了這個緣故，我要求跟諸位見面談談。我之所以帶著這鎖鍊，原是為了以色列人所盼望的那一位。」
28:21 他們對保羅說：「關於你的事，我們並沒有從猶太接到任何信件，也沒有同道從那裏帶甚麼消息來，或是說你甚麼壞話。
28:22 但是，我們想聽聽你的意見，因為我們知道，你所屬的這一門教派是到處受人攻擊的。」

28:16 And when we came into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier that guarded him.
28:17 After three days he called together
the local leaders of the Jews; and when they had gathered, he said to
them, "Brethren, though I had done nothing against the people or the
customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem
into the hands of the Romans.
28:18 When they had examined me, they wished to set me at liberty, because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.
28:19 But when the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar -- though I had no charge to bring against my nation.
28:20 For this reason therefore I have asked
to see you and speak with you, since it is because of the hope of
Israel that I am bound with this chain."
28:21 And they said to him, "We have
received no letters from Judea about you, and none of the brethren
coming here has reported or spoken any evil about you.
28:22 But we desire to hear from you what
your views are; for with regard to this sect we know that everywhere it
is spoken against."
