22:31 當時，耶和華使巴蘭的眼目明亮，他就看見耶和華的使者站在路上，手裡有拔出來的刀，巴蘭便低頭俯伏在地。
22:32 耶和華的使者對他說：「你為何這三次打你的驢呢？我出來敵擋你，因你所行的，在我面前偏僻。
22:33 驢看見我就三次從我面前偏過去；驢若沒有偏過去，我早把你殺了，留牠存活。」
22:34 巴蘭對耶和華的使者說：「我有罪了。我不知道你站在路上阻擋我；你若不喜歡我去，我就轉回。」
22:35 耶和華的使者對巴蘭說：「你同這些人去吧！你只要說我對你說的話。」於是巴蘭同著巴勒的使臣去了。
22:36 巴勒聽見巴蘭來了，就往摩押京城去迎接他；這城是在邊界上，在亞嫩河旁。
22:37 巴勒對巴蘭說：「我不是急急地打發人到你那裡去召你嗎？你為何不到我這裡來呢？我豈不能使你得尊榮嗎？」
22:38 巴蘭說：「我已經到你這裡來了！現在我豈能擅自說甚麼呢？神將甚麼話傳給我，我就說甚麼。」
22:39 巴蘭和巴勒同行，來到基列‧胡瑣。
22:40 巴勒宰了（原文作獻）牛羊，送給巴蘭和陪伴的使臣。

22:31 隨後，上主使巴蘭看見天使拿著劍站在那裏，巴蘭就俯伏在地上。
22:32 天使對他說：「你為甚麼這樣三次打驢呢？我來擋住你的路，因為你不該去。
22:33 你的驢看見我，三次都躲開了，如果牠沒有躲開，我早把你殺了，而留牠活著。」
22:34 巴蘭回答：「我犯了罪；我不知道你站在路中擋住我。如果你認為我不該去，我就回家。」
22:35 可是天使說：「跟這些人去吧。但是你只可照著我要你說的話說。」巴蘭就跟他們去了。

巴勒歡迎巴蘭
22:36 巴勒聽說巴蘭來了，就到亞珥城去迎接他；這城在摩押邊界亞嫩河旁邊。
22:37 巴勒對他說：「我第一次派人請你，你怎麼不來呢？你以為我不能給你足夠的酬報嗎？」
22:38 巴蘭說：「我不是已經來了嗎？現在，我能說甚麼呢？我只能說上帝要我說的話。」
22:39 巴蘭跟巴勒到了胡瑣城。
22:40 巴勒在那裏宰了牛羊，把肉送給巴蘭和跟他一起的首領們。

22:31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his drawn sword in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.
22:32 And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your ass these three times? Behold, I have come forth to withstand you, because your way is perverse before me;
22:33 and the ass saw me, and turned aside before me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, surely just now I would have slain you and let her live."
22:34 Then Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned, for I did not know that thou didst stand in the road against me. Now therefore, if it is evil in thy sight, I will go back again."
22:35 And the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men; but only the word which I bid you, that shall you speak." So Balaam went on with the princes of Balak.
22:36 When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, on the boundary formed by the Arnon, at the extremity of the boundary.
22:37 And Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?"
22:38 Balaam said to Balak, "Lo, I have come to you! Have I now any power at all to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that must I speak."
22:39 Then Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kir'iath-hu'zoth.
22:40 And Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and to the princes who were with him.
