只要你們行事為人與基督的福音相稱，叫我或來見你們，或不在你們那裡，可以聽見你們的景況，知道你們同有一個心志，站立得穩，為所信的福音齊心努力。
1:28 凡事不怕敵人的驚嚇，這是證明他們沉淪，你們得救都是出於神。
1:29 因為你們蒙恩，不但得以信服基督，並要為他受苦。
1:30 你們的爭戰，就與你們在我身上從前所看見、現在所聽見的一樣。

最重要的是：你們的生活應該符合基督福音的要求。這樣，無論我能不能親自來看你們，我都會知道你們抱著共同的目標，堅定不移，同心協力為福音的信仰爭戰。
1:28 在任何事上都不受反對你們的人的恐嚇；要勇敢，以此向他們證明，他們一定滅亡，而你們一定得救，因為這是上帝的作為。
1:29 你們得到特權來事奉基督，不只是信他，也要為他受苦。
1:30 現在，你們可以跟我並肩作戰；這仗，你們看見我打過，你們一定聽見，我仍然在從事同樣的戰鬥。

1:27 Only let your manner of
life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see
you or am absent, I may hear of you that you stand firm in one spirit,
with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,
1:28 and not frightened in anything by your
opponents. This is a clear omen to them of their destruction, but of
your salvation, and that from God.
1:29 For it has been granted to you that for
the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer
for his sake,
1:30 engaged in the same conflict which you
saw and now hear to be mine.
