17:16 保羅在雅典等候他們的時候，看見滿城都是偶像，就心裡著急；
17:17 於是在會堂裡與猶太人和虔敬的人，並每日在市上所遇見的人，辯論。
17:18 還有以彼古羅和斯多亞兩門的學士，與他爭論。有的說：這胡言亂語的要說甚麼？有的說：他似乎是傳說外邦鬼神的。這話是因保羅傳講耶穌與復活的道。
17:19 他們就把他帶到亞略‧巴古，說：你所講的這新道，我們也可以知道嗎？
17:20 因為你有些奇怪的事傳到我們耳中，我們願意知道這些事是甚麼意思。
17:21 （雅典人和住在那裡的客人都不顧別的事，只將新聞說說聽聽。）

17:16 保羅在雅典等候西拉和提摩太的時候，看見滿城都是偶像，心裏非常難過。
17:17 他在會堂裏跟猶太人和敬拜上帝的外邦人辯論，又每天在廣場上跟偶然遇到的人辯論。
17:18 有些伊壁鳩魯派和斯多亞派的哲學家也來跟他爭論。有的說：「這走江湖的在胡吹些甚麼？」也有的說：「他好像在傳講外國的鬼神。」他們這樣說是因為保羅在傳耶穌和他復活的福音。
17:19 他們就帶保羅到亞略‧巴古的議會上，說：「我們可以知道一些你所講論的新學說嗎？
17:20 有些事我們聽來覺得非常奇異，很想知道究竟是甚麼意思。」(
17:21 原來雅典人和所有旅居在那裏的外國人都喜歡把時間全花在談論新聞、打聽消息上面。)

17:16 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols.
17:17 So he argued in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the market place every day with those who chanced to be there.
17:18 Some also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers met him. And some said, "What would this babbler say?" Others said, "He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities" -- because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.
17:19 And they took hold of him and brought him to the Are-op'agus, saying, "May we know what this new teaching is which you present?
17:20 For you bring some strange things to our ears; we wish to know therefore what these things mean."
17:21 Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new.
