1:1 以色列人出埃及地後，第二年二月初一日，耶和華在西奈的曠野、會幕中曉諭摩西說：
1:2 「你要按以色列全會眾的家室、宗族、人名的數目計算所有的男丁。
1:3 凡以色列中，從二十歲以外，能出去打仗的，你和亞倫要照他們的軍隊數點。
1:4 每支派中必有一人作本支派的族長，幫助你們。
1:5 他們的名字：屬流便的，有示丟珥的兒子以利蓿；
1:6 屬西緬的，有蘇利沙代的兒子示路蔑；
1:7 屬猶大的，有亞米拿達的兒子拿順；
1:8 屬以薩迦的，有蘇押的兒子拿坦業；
1:9 屬西布倫的，有希倫的兒子以利押；
1:10 約瑟子孫、屬以法蓮的，有亞米忽的兒子以利沙瑪；屬瑪拿西的，有比大蓿的兒子迦瑪列；
1:11 屬便雅憫的，有基多尼的兒子亞比但；
1:12 屬但的，有亞米沙代的兒子亞希以謝；
1:13 屬亞設的，有俄蘭的兒子帕結；
1:14 屬迦得的，有丟珥的兒子以利雅薩；
1:15 屬拿弗他利的，有以南的兒子亞希拉。
1:16 這都是從會中選召的，各作本支派的首領，都是以色列軍中的統領。」
1:17 於是，摩西、亞倫帶著這些按名指定的人，
1:18 當二月初一日招聚全會眾。會眾就照他們的家室、宗族、人名的數目，從二十歲以外的，都述說自己的家譜。
1:19 耶和華怎樣吩咐摩西，他就怎樣在西奈的曠野數點他們。

以色列的第一次人口普查
1:1 以色列人離開埃及後的第二年二月初一日，上主在西奈曠野他的聖幕裏對摩西說：
1:2 「你和亞倫要調查以色列的人口，要一宗族一宗族、一家族一家族的調查，把二十歲以上能作戰的男人名單列出來。
1:3 併於上節
1:4 你們要從每一支族中找一個族長幫助你們。」
1:5 以下是各支族為這項工作所選出來的領袖：

1:1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
1:2 "Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by families, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head;
1:3 from twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go forth to war, you and Aaron shall number them, company by company.
1:4 And there shall be with you a man from each tribe, each man being the head of the house of his fathers.
1:5 And these are the names of the men who shall attend you. From Reuben, Eli'zur the son of Shed'eur;
1:6 from Simeon, Shelu'mi-el the son of Zurishad'dai;
1:7 from Judah, Nahshon the son of Ammin'adab;
1:8 from Is'sachar, Nethan'el the son of Zu'ar;
1:9 from Zeb'ulun, Eli'ab the son of Helon;
1:10 from the sons of Joseph, from E'phraim, Eli'shama the son of Ammi'hud, and from Manas'seh, Gama'liel the son of Pedah'zur;
1:11 from Benjamin, Abi'dan the son of Gideo'ni;
1:12 from Dan, Ahi-e'zer the son of Ammishad'dai;
1:13 from Asher, Pa'giel the son of Ochran;
1:14 from Gad, Eli'asaph the son of Deu'el;
1:15 from Naph'tali, Ahi'ra the son of Enan."
1:16 These were the ones chosen from the congregation, the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the heads of the clans of Israel.
1:17 Moses and Aaron took these men who have been named,
1:18 and on the first day of the second month, they assembled the whole congregation together, who registered themselves by families, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names from twenty years old and upward, head by head,
1:19 as the LORD commanded Moses. So he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.
